Specialty Compounding is the practice of preparing customized medications for patients by trained pharmacists. According to Health Canada:

“In Canada, compounding of drugs is practiced primarily by pharmacists as an integral part of their profession and is regulated by the respective regulatory authorities in each province/territory.”

The practice of Compounding dates back to the earliest origins of pharmacies but its importance had lessened over the years. Currently it is enjoying a resurgence for a variety of reasons including changing treatment practices.
