Pediatric Preparations

Pediatric Preparations are medicines prepared for children by pharmacists trained in Specialty Compounding. The process involves the pharmacist changing medicines (in some cases creating new compounds from scratch) they are dispensing to make them more effective and attractive to the patient. In all cases the attending physician is consulted before the compounding actually takes place!

Since some children cannot swallow pills (due to age) then liquid suspensions can be created, in other cases new flavours can be added to disguise unpleasant tastes. The medicine can frequently be changed so it comes in new forms such as dermal gels, lollipops, lozenges or gummies. In other cases unwanted ingredients, such as alcohol, lactose or sugar, can be removed. Dosages can also be adjusted to take account of the size difference between children and adults.

The fact is that taking medicine is rarely pleasant but at CD Whyte Ridge medicine doesn’t have to taste bad! Some of the available flavours include

Apple
Apricot
Banana Cream
Blueberry
Butterscotch
Cheesecake
Chocolate
Chocolate Hazelnut
Chocolate Mint

And more flavours are coming all the time!

Basically we will do whatever is necessary to ensure that, as Mary Poppins says, "... the medicine goes down!" Whether it involves changing the shape of the medicine or its flavour or even creating a brand new compound we will do it, just ask!
