INR Testing

International Normalized Ratio (INR) Testing applies to patients who take Warfarin, prescribed for people who have conditions that encourage the formation of blood clots, conditions such as atrial fibrillation (a heart disorder) or thrombophelbitis (inflammation of the veins due to blood clots). INR Testing evaluates how long it takes blood to clot and is an important test to maximize the efficiency of the treatment. Too much warfarin could potentially result in excess bleeding but too little would result in a risk of developing a clot. For those reasons it is very important that a regime of INR Testing should be worked out with the attending physician prior to beginning treatments involving warfarin.

In the past physicians have had to order the tests directly from the laboratories but at CD Whyte Ridge we have our own INR equipment, equipment which is certified and quality monitored. This means that we can provide testing services that are the same as those provided by laboratories with the results frequently available in as little as fifteen minutes.
